About Montessori
Gateway Preparatory Academy primarily uses the Montessori method of instruction and related materials and curriculum.
For a list of frequently asked Montessori questions, please refer to the North American Montessori Teacher's Association FAQ page. For a general overview, please see the Wikipedia page about the Montessori Method.
The video is excerpted from an American Montessori Society parent orientation video.
Registration Packet
The registration packet for parents of students that have been accepted for enrollment is now available for you to print and return. The packet includes complete instructions.
Registration packets for those who were accepted for enrollment on May 10th are due by June 16th. June 30th for those accepted on June 3rd. You may ignore the deadline listed on the packet paperwork. You must turn in at least the acceptance form and records transfer form by the end of June to assure your student's spot in the school.
Acceptance letters for students previously accepted that are currently in the "Not Enrolled, No Signed Acceptance Letter" status will be accepted, but those students will only be given an enrollment spot as space is available in their grade.
Students that have not already been accepted for enrollment should fill out the online enrollment application first.
Innovative, Individual, Integrated Curriculum
Innovative
GPA innovates by using the time-tested methods of Maria Montessori, combined with classical resources and Core Knowledge to emphasize practical application in education. Evaluation will be through competencies aligned with State Core Standards and Gateway's curriculum. Parents and teachers track student progress through a web-based reporting system and end-of-term student projects.
Individual
GPA believes that a child's learning style and pace is unique. Independent and small group work will replace much of the traditional lecture format. Through assigning teacher mentors and allowing personal pacing, a student with more interest in a particular area will be allowed to advance at their own rate while a student that struggles in a particular area will be able to receive more help.
Integrated Curriculum
GPA teachers working in teams will create themes that integrate individual subjects. Student projects provide a meaningful education where individual subjects clearly relate to real-world skills. Academic levels encourage role-modeling, student mentoring, and individual progression.
Curriculum Implementation Plan
