It is not the type of shirt but the modesty of the shirt that should be important. 

Modesty is so interpretational. Unless you become very specific and detailed, you will see many different styles of shirts. The simplest way to avoid varied interpretation of the dress code, is to simplify it. It might cost more to initially go buy a few shirts. But your child will wear the same shirts all year - so in the end you would actually save money.
