Integrated Instruction Teacher Planning Guide

The following illustrations are used both in explaining Integrated Curriculum as well as part of the Teacher planning guide.

The backward planning model starts with big concepts and leads to progressively smaller pieces.

Backward Planning Model

If Curriculum:

  • is holistic, reflecting the real world
  • focuses on comprehensive life problems
  • combines subjects into one active project
  • centers in the process of developing abilities
  • seeks patterns to search for meaning in them
  • reinforces personally useful tools, not isolated fact

Then Students:

  • stay in school longer
  • work harder
  • like school better
  • make connections
  • apply processes to real life
  • see value in their learning
