dress code

My opinion is k-8 should all be the same.  I would like to see Khaki pants, skirts, skorts. I would like to see shirts be polo style in the school colors.  Girls like to dress up a little and be feminine and should be allowed to wear skirts.  I personally like the private school attire.  When my kids were in Private school, the school sold the clothes that were donated at the end of the year-so sometimes I was able to get good used pants for 3$.  That might be something to think about after the first year.  But I think the colors should stick to the school colors.

holes and tears

My childrens levi's have gotten holes in the knees over the year.  My funds have been tight  and I have sent them to school with these on.  They were always dressed modestly and looked nice in spite of the holes.  Let us not get so restrictive we become what we came here to get away from.

Denim

Denim is a wonderful wear well material that looks good.  It can be modest and comfortable and be played in.  I think it is outrageous to say no denim.  I have seen other types of clothing look much much worse and sloppy.

denim

Hooray for denim and is long lasting wear!!!!

Holes?

I think holes are never ok My kids have also put holes in their pants many times - but if I send them to school in these, I always patch them - even if I do so by hand. If we allow holes - where do we draw the line? What is the difference between holes at the knee and jeans that have many slashes down the legs (as now seen in many stores). Kids very often act according to how they are dressed. Denim, espescially with holes, is not my favorite for a dress code.

Compromise

Maybe a good compromise would be to allow denim but require collared shirts.

I would have to say that

I would have to say that alot, if not most parents have decided to go to gateway prep. because of the style of education, not so that our children don't have any rules or regulations to follow. You cannot raise a child to fuction in society as an adult without rules.  Also, we need to teach our children how to succeed which means dressing for success! As for the idea that jeans last longer than dockers and can look classy seems silly to me if you look at the current style of jeans. The style now is torn, tattered and dirty. None of these words are ones I would use to describe classy. Plus, these are the styles that your children will be asking for because they are popular. As for the cost, it would be cheeper to by dockers and polos at walmart than to by Lucky's, Buckle jeans or even AE and Old navy jeans.
