What After School and Off-Track Options do you want?

We're trying to determine what the after school and off track program needs to look like to serve the students and parents. There are a variety of possible routes, ranging from a small free program for a few kids that need it the most to a large parent-paid program through third-party providers, including dance/music/karate/academic/etc... professionals.

Please vote even if you don't plan to participate in activities, since we need to get an idea of what percentage of the students will be planning to participate or not.

There are several legal and financial issues that we'll have to overcome in order to create a successful program. Those issues limit our options in what we can offer. The results of the poll will guide the Academy Board in deciding how to structure the program within our legal options to best meet everyone's needs.

Please select all of the options that apply to the students in your family.

Thank you for helping to make GPA the school our kids deserve.

after school or off track program

I think hiking or gardening might be a good after school or off track program

after school or off track program

Yes, something outdoorsy like scouting, but co-ed.  I didn't learn much in girl scouts and was always jealous of the boys who got to do a lot of adventurous activities.  Jr. Rangers or Jr. Naturalists.  Something to teach the kids about the animals and plant life in the area they live in.

after school programs

Please incude these programs for lower level and not just upper classmen.  It seems there are things that I would have my kiids be part of but they were not upper classmen yet.

cooking

When it is feasible a cooking class would be great or some sort of Home Eco. class

after school activ.

home ec and wood shop classes for both boys and girls

off track and afterschool activities

I would like to see Yoga as an activity.

Great Ideas!

Keep them coming! Jen Davis here. We will be implementing as many of these activities as possible( depending on availability and demand). These programs are for everybody, K-8. Granted they will grouped by age, so they are age appropriate, for the most part. There may be opportunities to combine the different age groups, depending on the activity.

I agree with people who

I agree with people who posted gardening, cooking, hiking and crafts as possible subjects for after school and off-track activities. I would add to these that coming to classical music concerts or to one of the Shakespeare Festival plays appropriate for children would be a wonderful enriching experience for kids. And it should be done on a more or less regular basis to be truly fruitful for them.

off track activites

I would like to see the students exposed to the fine arts; plays, concerts etc.  I also agree that hikes would be a great activity as well.

Swimming

Swimming would also be a great activity- if something could be worked out with the SUU pool and Physical Education students.

After School and Off-Track

Well, obviously my votes are going to be for the fine arts in any form, visual arts, theatre, music or dance.  These are most lacking not only in this state, but throughout the country.  And there are a myriad of studies which have shown that the ommission of fine arts in an elementary school's curriculum or electives causes and has caused a major drop in the intellectual, artistic and moral fiber and sensibilities of every community that experiences this loss.  The fact is, our very own Utah Shakespearean Festival has been experiencing the result of this for the past 10 years.  I shudder at the thought of what what would happen to the financial climate of our community if we lost USF.  But this could be a reality we'll face in the next 10 to 15.  Ensuring that Southern Utah will have a prosperous future in the arts begins with us.

I agree with the other

I agree with the other comments posted, these activities sound like a lot of fun.  One concern is I have a pre-schooler there and I don't want to go back and forth to school 4 times a day.  I would be interested in carpooling.

After School Activity

I think that a community service or government club would be beneficial for the children.
